GoPetDog Treadmills: Review

GoPet PR700 Dog Treadmill

Features

A dog treadmill designed for small dogs up to 44lbs

The running area on the treadmill is 28″ L x 16″ W

The speed range of the treadmill is 1-8MPH

Has dolly wheels to easily move the treadmill and roll it along the ground when you need to transport it

There is a bar on the front of the treadmill that you can attach a dog toy to

The treadmill has a gradual start feature

The treadmill has a small remote which allows you to increase and decrease the speed manually, and turn off the treadmill

There are also controls on the side of the treadmill to turn it on and off and adjust speed

The treadmill itself weighs 63lbs

Runs smoothly and fairly quietly

The treadmill comes with a 1 year warranty – but check the conditions of the warranty before you buy, especially if going through a third party seller

Drawbacks

The treadmill isn’t cheap

The 1 year warranty should be longer (multiple years) for a piece of equipment of this price for peace of mind

The sticker on the treadmill (where you plug in the power cord) says 110 volt. So, it’s probably for US use only and not for international use

Although the treadmill is for pets up to 44lbs, you may want to be conservative and be 5-10lbs or more under the recommended weight limit just so there’s less stress on the motor, and to ensure you get the power you need from it

Overall

Overall, the treadmill works well for small dogs. The two main things to be aware of are the price, and to make sure you are happy with the warranty and return policy offered before you buy. You definitely want to make sure you will be able to cover your money in case you experience any issues. An alternative for small dogs if you want to check out another Mini dog treadmill is the dogPACER Minipacer Dog Treadmill

Potential Benefits Of A Dog Treadmill

They can be used inside so the weather outside where you live doesn’t matter when it comes to exercise using the treadmill

Good for preventing obesity related problems

Good for potentially decreasing vet bills as a dog that exercises regularly might be in better shape

If your dog is an allergy sufferer, an inside treadmill can be a good option for exercise compared to going outside

Treadmills can be a good for owners who are sometimes time poor

Treadmills can be good if you live in an area where late night walking might be less safe (as your dog can get exercise inside at night)

Dog treadmills can be good for those with smaller living spaces and without a backyard

Should My Dog Use A Dog Treadmill?

Ask for a professional vet’s advice on whether your dog should use a treadmill.

Dogs with injuries or health conditions may not be suitable.

Make sure you read any instructions that come with the dog treadmill, so you know how your dog can use the treadmill safely.

It’s usually best to not leave your dog alone on the treadmill and to supervise them when they are using it.

Also note that a doggy treadmill is not a substitute for daily outside walking, exercise and socialisation of your dog – it is a complement or supplement to it.

Will My Dog Be Comfortable Using a Treadmill?

Some dogs may be comfortable straight away, whilst others may take time to get used to it.

Treats and rewards based training to use the treadmill can work well.

This treadmill has a front bar, so, as long as you supervise the dog while they are on the treadmill, you can put them in their harness and leash and attach the leash to the bar, and start the treadmill on the lowest speed and gradually build up as your dog gets more comfortable.

Eventually, they may use the treadmill without the leash/harness if you consistently use some type of positive reward based training.

Some dogs may even love a dog treadmill because they love the exercise. But, be careful not to over exercise them.

In rarer instances, you may have to get a professional animal trainer in if your dog refuses to get on the treadmill at all.
