Dyson V6 vs V7 vs V8 vs V10 vs V11: Cordless Vacuum Comparison

Dyson have several different series of V model vacuums which are capable of picking up pet hair and of course general household mess.

Those are the V6, V7, V8, V10 and V11 series/models vacuums.

We’ve put together this Dyson Animal V6 vs V7 vs V8 vs V10 vs V11 Vacuum Comparison Guide where we look at the main similarities and differences between the V series/model vacuums.

We also include the main features, reviews, and comparisons of the individual models within the different series of V vacuums.

It’s also worth noting that they feature amongst our best stick vacuums for pet hair.

Let’s take a better look at them!

If you prefer, you can go straight to viewing the Animals version of these vacs (specifically for pet owners) here:

*Note: these are the animal models.

You can view the Motorhead and Absolute models once you are through into Amazon too if you like.

There’s also a corded model in the V6 range, and a Torque Drive model in the V11 range.

Dyson V6 vs V7 vs V8 vs V10 vs V11: Which Is Better/Which To Get?

The main difference between them is that the suction power increases from the V6 up to the V11, with the V11 being the most powerful of them all.

The battery life also generally increases too, as does the dust bin capacity (the V10 is estimated to have a 40% bigger bin capacity than the V8)

If cost isn’t an issue, the V11 models are a good option if you want that extra power. It has a special motor to allow it to spin with greater torque.

The V11 is estimated to be about 40% more powerful than the V8 range, and 20% more powerful than the V10 range.

The V11 is designed as the ‘most intelligent, powerful cordless vacuum. Twice the suction of any cordless vacuum.’

It intelligently optimises cleaning and run time, and auto adjusts between different floor surfaces.

The Torque Drive Model also has a real time intelligent LCD display and reporting for the vacuum – it reports on different cleaning statistics and data like performance, run time, maintenance alerts, and so on.

The V8 series might offer some of the best value for money overall in terms of performance, battery life and reliability/durability, followed closely by the V7 series.

The V10 is powerful, but how quickly the battery can drain can be an issue for some.

Dyson Animal V6 vs V7 vs V8 vs V10 vs V11: Differences

The main differences between the different series’ are as follows:

The Cord Free V6 is the base model

The V6 Absolute, Motorhead and Animal are 75% more powerful than the Cord Free base model

The V6 series has a non motorised tool battery life of around 20 minutes, and a motorised tool battery life of around 5 minutes

The V7 series has 75% more brush bar power than the V6 series

The V7 series has a non motorised tool battery life of around 30 minutes, and a motorised tool battery life of around 5-10 minutes

The V8 series has 150% more brush bar power than the V6 series

The V8 series has a non motorised tool battery life of around 40 minutes, and a motorised tool battery life of around 10 minutes

The V10 series is the most powerful series of them all

The V10 series has a non motorised tool battery life of around 60 minutes, and a motorised tool battery life of around 10-15 minutes (in reality though, it probably doesn’t last thing long)

On top of this, there are usually differences between the regular model, Motorhead, Animal and Absolute models in each series.

We include these differences below in this guide.

The Animal models usually come with an additional mini motorised tool and a duster tool

The Absolute models usually come with those tools, plus a HEPA filter and an additional main cleaning head which is soft and intended for hard floors and larger debris.

*It’s worth noting that factors like features, warranty conditions and length, and inclusions can change over time, so, make sure you check and confirm them prior to buying.

Dyson V6 Cord Free vs Animal vs Motorhead vs Absolute: Which To Get?

The Cord Free is the base model of the four, so if you want basic – it may be a good option.

The Motorhead, Animal and Absolute are all designed to have 75% more power than the Cord Free, and the Motorhead is the most basic kit of those three, coming with the same accessories as the regular Cord Free.

The Animal is the next kit up from the Motorhead, coming with an additional mini motorised tool and the dusting brush tool.

Lastly, the Absolute comes with everything the Animal does, but it also uses HEPA filtration, and comes with an additional soft head vacuum head specifically for hard floors and larger debris.

Overall, we personally would start by looking at the V8 series by Dyson (or the V7), as we believe they present a little bit more value in terms of power and battery life.

Dyson V6 Cord Free vs Animal vs Motorhead vs Absolute: Differences

The main differences are:

The Animal, Motorhead and Absolute models are designed with 75% more power than the Cord Free original model

The Absolute comes with the additional soft head brush, and the HEPA filter

Dyson V6 Cord Free vs Animal vs Motorhead vs Absolute: Similarities

All use a motorised brush head for picking up hair, including pet hair (the head is a motorised cleaner head)

All run on lithium ion batteries

Drawbacks

With the motorised brush head, you only get about 5 mins run time (not the 20 minutes you get with the non powered crevice tool and other non powered attachments). So, battery life can be an issue for some people

The dust container capacity is quite small

There are newer series out – the V7, V8 and V10 series

Not a cheap vacuum

Some people may prefer an electric/corded vacuum if they don’t like the idea of having limited run time with a battery

Some people can have issues with the battery (like any battery operated vacuum). Make sure you check the return policy and warranty conditions prior to purchasing to protect your investment

Overall

Overall the V6 Absolute Cord Free is OK value but the fact there are newer series out, and the battery life is quite short, limits it’s value. We would definitely look at the V8 series first, which has more power and an extended battery life. Make sure you are OK with the return policy and warranty on all battery vacuum models before you buy in case you have issues with the battery holding charge or any other vacuum issues. Dyson V7 Motorhead vs Animal: Which To Get?

If you want the extra mini motorised tool, get the Animal instead of the Motorhead.

Overall, both vacuums are the same apart from that.

It’s worth looking at the V8 series as well because they have a longer battery life and more power, and might give you a little bit better value overall.

But, the V7 series is still good value for money considering their price.

Dyson V7 Motorhead vs Animal: Differences

The only main difference is the V7 Animal comes with the mini motorised tool that the Motorhead doesn’t

Dyson V7 Motorhead vs Animal: Similarities

Both are cordless/battery operated stick vacuums

Both are highly portable and very lightweight

Both can be used on most surfaces, and above floor level too

Both use a motorised brush head for picking up hair, including pet hair (the head is a Direct drive cleaner head)

Both run on lithium ion batteries

Both are designed to run up to 30 minutes on a full charge with non motorised tools and brush heads

Both run about 6 mins on full power mode with the motorised head

Both have a charging time of around 3.5 hours

Both are designed to be 75% more powerful than the V6

Both have a slider switch to select between the power modes

Both can also detach down into a smaller and lighter handheld

Both work with a dust container and no bags

With both, the extended reach of the stick allows you to clean floors, but also walls and ceilings

Both come with a Combination tool, and crevice tool

Both use a direct drive cleaner head

Both have 15 cyclones on the vacuum in a 2 tier system

Dyson V8 Animal vs Absolute: Which To Get?

Both are essentially the same vacuum performance wise, and come with most of the same features and accessories/attachments.

The Absolute however comes with the additional soft vacuum cleaner head for hard floors specifically, and picking up larger debris.

So, if you plan on doing more cleaning on flat harder floors and you want that additional cleaner head, get the Absolute.

Otherwise, you may find the Animal a better option if you can get it for a better price and you don’t need that soft cleaner head.

Dyson V8 Animal vs Absolute: Differences

The main difference is that the Absolute comes with the additional soft vacuum head for hard floors and larger debris, whereas the Animal doesn’t

Some people don’t like that you have to hold the button down to use this vacuum

Overall

The V8 works as a stick vacuum but can also detach down into a smaller and lighter handheld

The dust filter has HEPA filtering

There’s a a dust container on this vacuum and no bags to deal with

Container capacity is 0.14 gallons

With the extended reach of the stick, you can clean floors, but also walls and ceilings

Comes with crevice and combination tools for cleaning corners and harder to reach spots, a duster brush attachment, and a mini motorised tool

So, there’s 4 attachments in total, plus the direct drive cleaning vacuum head

Also comes with a wall mounting station for mounting your vacuum on the wall

There’s 15 cyclones on the vacuum arranged across 2 tiers, which increases airflow and capture fine dust.

Vacuum has a 2 year limited warranty

Drawbacks

With the motorised brush head, you only get about 25 mins run time (not the 40 minutes you get with the non powered crevice tool and other non powered attachments)

The motorised brush head is thick – too thick to get under lower furniture – but you can switch to the crevice tool for this

The V10 is available, which some people may prefer over the V8

Some people don’t like that you have to hold the button down to use this vacuum

Overall

Overall, because it’s similar to the V8 Animal, the Absolute is one of the best pet vacuums on the market, and perhaps the equal best cordless/stick pet vacuum. Although it is pricy, it performs well on carpets, hard floors and above floor level too. It’s lightweight and portable. If you want to get it, just make sure you are OK with the return policy and warranty before you buy.

Dyson V10 Animal vs Absolute vs Motorhead: Which To Get?

The main differences are in the cleaner heads you get, the accessories you get, and the size of the dust containers.

The Motorhead is the most basic model of the three, so if a lower price but the high suction of the V10 motor is a priority for you, get the Motorhead.

The Animal and Absolute motors have larger dust container capacities, a different motorised cleaner head, and two additional cleaning accessories.

The Absolute is the only model that comes with a second cleaning head – the soft cleaning head for hard surfaces and larger debris.

If you want to do a lot of cleaning on hard surfaces, this may be the model for you.

If you don’t need the additional cleaner head, get the Animal.

Having said this, the V8 models are very popular and provide good value for money, so you may start by looking at them first.

Dyson V10 Animal vs Absolute vs Motorhead: Differences

The Animal and Absolute use a Torque drive cleaner head, whereas the Motorhead uses a Direct drive cleaner head

The Absolute uses a Soft roller cleaner head for hard surfaces, and larger debris

The Motorhead comes with just the Combination tool, and the crevice tool. But, the Animal and Absolute come with the mini soft dusting brush, and mini-motorized tool as well

The Motorhead dust container capacity is .54 Liters, whereas the Animal and Absolute dust container capacity is .77 Liters

But, in general, the V11 series is the most powerful compared to the other V series cordless vacuum models from Dyson.

Dyson V11 Animal vs Torque Drive Cordless Vacuums: Differences

The Torque Drive model has the LCD display screen on the top of the vacuum that displays run time countdown and performance, along with the real time running vacuum indicators

Dyson V11 Animal vs Torque Drive Cordless Vacuums: Similarities

Both allow you to switch between the stick and handheld vac

Both have a DLS system to automatically change the motor speed between surfaces

Both have a claimed twice the suction of any cord free vacuum on the market

Both have about 40% more suction power than the Dyson V8 vacuum, and the batteries provide 20% more suction power than the Dyson Cyclone V10 vacuum
