Coolaroo Elevated Dog Bed With Breathable Fabric

View On Amazon

An elevated dog bed.

It comes constructed with:

  • A powder coated steel frame
  • Breathable fabric that allows air through
  • The fabric is also UV-treated to resist fading, resistant to mold and mildew, and flea and mite resistant

4 colors available – Gray, Green, Nutmeg and Terracotta.

Comes in 5 sizes depending on what color you get. The largest size, extra large, comes as 59.8L x 37W x 8.85H inches.

The one potential issue with this bed is when you start dealing with dogs over about 70-80lbs, the middle of the fabric can begin to sag lower over a few months, and it puts more pressure on the seams of the fabric.

This doesn’t happen with every bed though – it may just be the individual stitching on some beds.

Still, if you have a heavier/large dog, perhaps look at a memory foam bed instead that lays flat on the ground.

Arf Pets Cooling Dog Mat and Gel Pad

View On Amazon

Gel Mats and pads are thinner than the above beds, and so your dog will probably better be able to feel the cooling effect of the gel, minus some of the comfort and padding dog beds have.

This is a nylon cushion type mat designed to keep pets cool in warm temperatures or higher humidity conditions. The cushioning is comfortable on the joints and bones.

It may even be used for older ailing dogs with joint issues. It may also help relax a pet that’s recovering from surgery or suffering from pain, swelling, stress, skin conditions, Cushing’s disease, and more.

Other features include:

  • Ideal for indoor and outdoor use – if you use it outdoors, make sure you use it undercover and not in direct sunlight or exposed to the elements
  • Uses no electricity or cords, no batteries, no refrigeration and no water.
  • It is a self cooling mat that should provide cooling relief for up to 3 hours at a time. After 3 hours of use, it automatically recharges in just 15-20 minutes of non-use.
  • Non toxic and latex free to maximise safety for your dog. 100% safe for not only your dog, but for you and your kids.
  • The mat is very flexible, retains it’s shape and is easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth.
  • Very easy to fold up and store away
  • Doesn’t seem to have any issues with larger heavier dogs using it
  • Seems relatively scratch proof. If you have a dog that is a heavy chewer though, this might not be the best option
  • Great as a travel mat if you go driving somewhere locally or out of town.
  • The mat is made to be durable with a solid construction so that the gel doesn’t leak – puncture resistant. But, do keep the mat away from sharp objects and your dog’s teeth

Comes in three sizes:

  • 23 by 35 inches
  • 27 by 43 inches
  • 35 x 55 inches

Best Cooling Beds For Dogs: Buyer’s Guide

Cooling Mats vs Memory Foam Cooling Beds – What’s The Difference?

Well, one is a bed and the other is a mat/pad.

The beds are designed for sleeping on – they are much more thicker and have much more support and cushioning.

The mats are thinner with less cushioning, but your dog may be able to feel the cooling sensation more significantly because the mat fabric is thinner than the outer fabric of the bed.

Are There Any Good Electric Cooling Dog Beds?

Although there are electric heating mats/pads for dogs and electric heating beds for dogs, we couldn’t find any practical or suitable electric cooling beds for dogs.

What Features Might You Look For In Cooling Beds and Cooling Mats For Dogs?

  • Check what type of foam the bed has and how thick it is – how many inches? Is it orthopaedic foam?
  • Does the bed come with a warranty?
  • How easy is the bed or mat to clean – can the mat be wiped with a damp cloth, and can the bed be put in the wash? Does the bed come with an easy to clean cover for spills and messes?
  • Check what the outer fabric is made of and how durable it is. Does it rip/tear easy and does it stand up to punctures?
  • What is the internal cooling gel made of? Is it completely non-toxic and safe for your dog, your kids and you in case there is a puncture or leak?
  • Is the mat and inside and an outside mat? Can it be used in your home as well as outside on the back patio or in the dog house?
  • What sizes does the mat come in? Can you get a size to fit a dog house or crate that you own?
  • How much cushioning is there in the mat for comfort while your dog sits, kneels or lays on it?
